Cardiac Rehab and Respiratory Therapy
Cardiac Rehab and Respiratory Therapy
Here at Freestone, we provide services that most major hospitals provide—but locally, within the community. That way, you and your family don’t have to travel long distances to get the healthcare services you need.
We have extensive expertise for patients diagnosed with both COPD or asthma to help improve lung function and provide a safe environment to maintain your physical health all while being actively monitored for oxygen saturation and lung function. Smoking cessation programs are also available.

Cardiac Rehab & respiratory therapy Director
Vernita Huckaby, RRT
Because we are a hometown hospital, we treat patients like family unlike those crowded emergency rooms at larger, urban hospitals. Our staff excels in a personal, hands-on approach to nursing care. It allows our physicians to have the opportunity to be at the patient’s bedside. The goal of our team is to stabilize patients as quickly and completely as possible. After stabilization, patients can be admitted right here at home, only being transferred for specialty care.
One-on-One Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Services
Specially qualified cardiac and pulmonary rehab personnel work with patients three times a week or as prescribed by their physician. Patients are actively monitored while using treadmills, bicycles, and other aerobic equipment to gain strength, improve endurance, and improving overall lung performance. We closely monitor heart rate, rhythm, and lung function throughout your workout.
During the program, patients receive continuous telemetry monitoring of their electrocardiogram (EKG) and heart rate with frequent blood pressure checks.
Sessions last approximately one hour and are typically scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Training and Lifestyle Education
Sometimes, rehabilitation means more than working with the body. It also means regaining confidence. Another important component of life after a cardiac event is education. Patients receive the personal information they need to make lifestyle changes to help decrease the chance of future cardiac incidents. Our cardiac rehab specialists train and educate patients on a wide range of lifestyle and health choices including nutrition and diet, lifestyle, exercise, stress reduction, and medications compliance.
After patients graduate from the cardiac rehabilitation program, they have the choice of moving to a maintenance program where they continue to exercise in the Cardiac Center but without a heart monitor. Our rehab team will also help design a program for use at home.
Cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation is another top-notch service offered by Freestone Medical Center to keep high-quality care close to home. We work closely with physicians from all around the region and with most insurances.
Patients should always check with their cardiologist or pulmonologist to see if they could benefit from cardiac rehabilitation.
We also assist patients with smoking cessation tools and education to help improve their quality of life and ultimately to quit smoking.
